Marshwood Great Works School Solar Car Races

Marshwood Great Works School students and staff are excited to get back to the race track this year on Wednesday, June 9th.  The annual solar car race may look a little different, but the fifth-grade students are buzzing with excitement. The track is spaced out to provide plenty of social distance, the classes will rotate through races to reduce exposure, the volunteers are minimal, but the students and cars are ready!

Students were given this engineering challenge to brainstorm, design, and construct cars powered solely by solar energy. They were given criteria that include dimensions and payload requirements, but the rest is up to them.

The cars will be judged on: speed, technical merit, craftsmanship, creative use of recycled materials, innovation, kid's choice, and the 4 C’s award- creativity, cooperation, collaboration, and compromise.
