April Break for Marshwood April 15-19 No School

The study of Earth and Space invites big questions and is one of the highlights of middle school science. But getting to experience a celestial event, even if it's only a partial solar eclipse, engages students on a whole different level! At MMS, more than 150 students went to the school's back parking lot to watch the the eclipse. The students were all handed ISO certified glasses, safe for viewing the eclipse.

April 7 District Update I hope this email finds you well. It has certainly been a long four days for many members of our community. I am emailing this afternoon to provide a quick update on the status of the District going into next week. Power Status I am happy to share that all MSAD 35 buildings currently have power. In addition, internet services have been restored as of yesterday morning. We are ready for students first thing Monday morning. Reminder - Tomorrow’s Schedule Please remember that tomorrow's schedule may be slightly different in our schools tomorrow as a result of the solar eclipse. Our elementary schools sent home notifications to families with the options for tomorrow afternoon. If you haven’t already done so, please fill out the permission forms for your student(s) indicating your plan for tomorrow afternoon. Afternoon buses at MHS and MMS will run on a normal schedule and the Elementary School buses will run later than normal. In addition, there will be a late bus for Marshwood High School and Marshwood Middle School students tomorrow, but not for Marshwood Great Works School’s students. Monday Bus Routes We have confirmed with both the Eliot and South Berwick Departments of Public works and there are no road closures at this time. Therefore, all AM bus routes will run on a normal schedule. This Evening use of Marshwood High School MSAD 35 is working closely with York County Emergency Management Services. You may see a large number of power restoration vehicles at Marshwood High School later this evening. We have been asked to open our facility in the event that power restoration crews need bathroom, showering and recharging facilities. MSAD 35 is happy to help in any way to facilitate and support the return of power to the State of Maine. This will not impact this afternoon's performance of Mamma Mia or school at Marshwood High School in the morning. Use of the facility may change in the event that York County Emergency Management does not require the facility. I am hopeful we can now fully dive into springtime weather. Track and Field and Softball are the only school sports having practice today. All other sports are cancelled today, 4/3 as well as tomorrow 4/4.

Great News from Marshwood High School Mrs. Lalos To welcome spring, Mrs. Lalos' Introduction to Foods and Nutrition classes participated in a Spring Cake Decorating Competition. Students took on the challenge of creating a from scratch spring themed cake. It was a close competition but the following students walked away with the winning title.

Great News from Marshwood Middle School Christine Goulet Principal Marshwood Middle School student Vanessa Hutchins was the recipient of a $1,000 Maine Learning Technology Initiative (MLTI) scholarship for her postcard entry during MLTI Day. Please see her postcard and photo of her receiving the award. We are so proud of her!

Marshwood Volleyball coming to MMS

The 7th grade students have opportunity to participate in the 2024 March Mammal Madness. The tournament is divided into four categories: epic animals, rainbow collection, connoisseur critters and take a bow. Have you seen what the MMS chorus is up to?

On Friday March 1st, the 7th grade had the first dance of the year. It was a whirlwind of excitement and laughter, creating memories that will last a lifetime. From the moment the music started, the cafeteria transformed into a busy dance floor, pulsating with energy and rhythm. Students showcased their best moves, from classic dance steps to spontaneous freestyle bursts. Students in the gym were able to shoot hoops and get their energy out by running around. One of the 8th grade science labs was set up as a game room. It was a night full of fun! Now the other grades are anxiously awaiting their upcoming dances.

Great News from Marshwood Middle School Good Evening Families, We are excited to announce we will be collaborating with Chelsea Farrington, a Tobacco Prevention Specialist from Partners for Healthier Communities Coalition! Chelsea will be providing Youth Vaping Prevention-What Parents and Educators Need to Know Presentations on March 12th in our MMS cafeteria during conference hours (3-6:30pm). The three 30 minute presentations will be held at 3:00pm, 4:30pm, & 5:30pm. We hope to see you there! We are excited to announce that the 7th grade dance has been scheduled! All 7th graders are invited. No admission fee.

Today MMS celebrated World Read Aloud Day! Ms. Corriveau hosted staff and students in the library today. Each 15 minutes Ms. Corriveau and Ms. Gilpatrick welcomed groups of students in with various stories. Students sat engaged in beautiful picture books, interesting short stories, repulsed by Grimm versions of fairy tales and on the edge of their seats for some scary tales.

The 7th Grade Boys Basketball team closed out their season with a win last Friday against Berwick Academy 52-26. It was a total team effort, where 14 out of 15 Hawks scored. Team Manager, Keoni “Mamba” Delorey got in the game in the second half and scored to the crowd's delight. Team assistant Nathan “good vibes” Duquette also dressed and got into the game in the 4th quarter. The crowd went nuts when Nathan scored on a nice short range jumper. The Hawks finished their last 5 games with a winning record and came together as a team in every possible way. Here's to a successful season, go Hawks!
