A Message from our District Nurse Team

February 5, 2024

Dear Marshwood Community,

We are seeing an increase throughout the Seacoast of cases of respiratory illnesses.  Hospitals are also seeing increased hospitalizations as well.

Students and staff members in all district schools are dealing with cases of strep, covid,  colds/coughs as well as common stomach viruses.

We want to remind families that covid testing should be done whenever you or your child is ill.  Especially when they are sick for multiple days, frequent serial testing may be required.  The covid variants currently circulating can take longer to build a viral load and have an antigen test be able to detect that.  We are seeing positive tests on days 3-5 of symptom onset.  We are asking that if your child is ill, they remain at home. Masking is also a good way to prevent the spread of germs.  Although we no longer have a masking policy in our district, we do know masking is beneficial in minimizing the spread of germs for not just covid, but the common cold, influenza, and other respiratory illnesses.

If you (staff) or your child does test positive for covid, please complete the Positive Covid Reporting form

If you need testing kits, please contact your school nurse as we recently were able to obtain a supply for staff and families and health offices.  Your school nurses are here to answer your questions.  Stay well!

Thank you from your District Nurse Team
