out of my mind

By Sharon Draper

Melody was born with cerebral palsy, a condition that causes issues with muscle tone, movement, and coordination. Because she can’t talk, nobody knows how smart Melody really is. Her doctors, teachers, and classmates all treat her differently, as if she cannot understand the cruel words they say right in front of her. But Melody has hope, motivation, and incredible strength, and she’s ready to prove everybody wrong. If you’re ready for a book you can’t put down, you’ll love Out of My Mind.

Ghost

By Jason Reynolds

Castle Crenshaw, nicknamed Ghost, learned how to run by running for his life, away from his own dad and his loaded gun. But even though he can run like the wind, Ghost has never thought about running track. So when he’s offered a spot on a team, his answer is an easy “nope.” To Ghost, it’s simple: He likes basketball. But to a coach who sees his natural talent, it’s not so simple, and Ghost soon finds himself on the team. The deal? He has to stay out of trouble. And unlike running, that does not come easy to him. Will Ghost stay on track? You’ll have to read to find out!
